My gerbil won't drink out of bottle, why?

anime__princess Aug 13, 2008 02:56 PM

Hello, my friend has gerbils ( I have Guinea pigs ) and I was talking to her today and she told me that her gerbils will NOT drink out of the bottle but will only drink if she gives it to them by hand! What can I tell her to do? What is wrong? Please help!

Thank you,

anime__princess ^_^

maybe the bottle is to big for them, and you can try opeing their mouthes and giving them the milk (or watever else you are giving them to drink)through a tear dropper. it could be that by licking off your friends fingers makes your friend seem even more like a mother to them, but to be on the safe side you might want to use tear dropper

They probably just don't understand that the ball valve is a water source.

Try putting something really tasty on the tip of the water bottle. I usually use peanut butter. When the little guys start licking off the peanut butter they will certainly wind up licking the ball as well and thus will discover that water comes that thing too (not just fingers).
