Found Domestic Rabbit in Yard

RussBates Jul 05, 2009 07:04 AM

Over the past two weeks a little white floppy ear bunny has been showing up in our back yard. I suspect someone let it go in the woods behind our house and somehow it decided my yard was a safe place. It likes to eat the naturally occuring chives that are in the yard. We've been thinking about catching and keeping it as we feel it will stand a better chance for survival under supervised care than it would running the woods and swamp behind us. I plan to take it to a vet for a wash up and flea dip and tick removal. Are there any shots it might need since it was exposed to the wild for an undefined period of time? It acts very dometicated (feeds from hand, let's you pet it without running away..etc)

Any advice is appreciated. Can you just wash a bunny like you do a dog? If so I can probably avoid an expensive vet trip.

Thanks,
Russ

A such a pretty bunny too. If I were you I would opt for a vet visit since this bunny has been living outside. I don't think th ebunny will be given any shots, but I woudl allow them to rid him of fleas, ticks and maybe even do a fecal exam to check for any parasites/ worms he may have picked up.

I understand sometimes vet visits can be costly, but bunnies can be tricky as far as treating for fleas and ticks. Some of the powders and flea/tick sprays can be quite toxic to a rabbit. You do hav to be careful. Safer to let the vet decide what and how much to use.

I wish you all the best with your new bunny , also I think I see some iceburg lettice in your pic, just wanted to let you know thats the worse lettice for an animal as far as not being very nutritious. All water. Heres a link with some diet info.

Hey take care and let us know how you make out
