How much fruit can she eat?

coluberking25 Jan 09, 2008 01:32 AM

Hey it's been awhile. I'd like to start by saying Isis is marvelous and everyone who meets her falls in love with her.

We've been offering very small portions of fruit(mostly banana and recently some apple). We've given her small pinches of banana and that's about it. How much can she eat when we offer her this stuff? Also, what are some other fruits/veggies you recommend we feed her?

If you forgot what she looked like, here she is in her younger days, as she has gotten MUCH larger since:

I believe you can give them any fruit except for citrus.
For greens, stay away from iceberg lettuce, but the rest is usually a good idea.

Just keep in mind, too much fruit or fiber, and you can get some soft poo. :P
Hope that helps ~C

Introduce her to it a little at a time, and monitor her poo (as gross as that may be ). If she's pooping good, solid poo, then you can give her more fruits/veggies. If they're looking a little soft, keep the amount you're giving her the same until they firm up. If they're runny or very soft, give her less.

What works for me is giving them more than they can actually eat in the morning, after I have breakfast or before I go to work. Then, when I come home I switch out the fresh food for lab blocks so that they have those all night.
Give about 3/4 veggies, 1/4 fruit. Fruit will give your rats diarrhea if you give too much, but you almost can't give them too much veggies.
