Anyone know if any kind of pain relievers can be used on rats? Are there any supplements that would help? I asked my vet once and she didn't know. My three year old has gotten very arthritic and I wish I could make him more comfortable. Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend continued use of pain relievers for arthritis. But I do know childrens aspirin works. You'll have to look up the amounts to give at rat websites.
I'm late to the game but wanted to throw in some info. Metacam is safe for rats, as are several narcotic pain relievers (which are good if the rat is on steroids, in which case Metacam isn't an option). Metacam isn't expensive and the dose is pretty small. I haven't had the need to use it with my rats yet so I'm not sure of the exact dose.
If your vet doesn't know how to treat pain, it's definitely time to find a new vet if at all possible. Google "Rat Guide" for proper dosing of Metacam (which is an anti-inflammatory, so would be great for arthritis) if you must go back to this vet.

Don't know about pain relief, but when my ratty got older (albeit I knew she was going to have to be put down within the next couple of months) I gave her my cats Catswell Happy Hips chicken strips. Just one once a day, which helped her a little. On halloween, she ran around and dived into all the candy =)
I don't know about long term use of it though, just a precaution,
