Funky water smell

Boost Jan 17, 2010 10:01 PM

We put our Koi fish into a a 46 gallon tank, using the penguin system, with a couple of decorations. Since putting him into the tank the water has gotten cloudy and has developed a funky smell which comes from the water itself. The lid on the tank is a tighter fit than his last one, could the issue be from lack of water evaporation or something else??

I need to know a few things... when did you set up your tank? what are the water parameters? Do you only have one koi in the 46 gallon tank? Without knowing anything but what size the tank is and your symptoms, I would say either your tank is cycling or your ammonia is too high (or a combination of the two).

Yes we do have one Koi in the 46 gallon tank, as far as when it was setup, a month ago roughly. As far as our water quality goes we use filtered water with a water treatment product for aquariums.

Sounds like it should be just about cycled, but I still need to know what the water parameters are... like ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, etc.
