Can you have too many plants?

merlin7676 May 03, 2008 02:28 PM

I was just wondering if you can have too many plants in your fish tank? I started out with a few who have multiplied, and multiplied and now have quite a few plants in there. I imagine that the answer is no since they help filter the water, provide oxygen, and take up carbon dioxide and waste nutrients.

I would say no, unless your tank is completely filled with plants leaving no room for your fish to swim. This is especially true if your fish need lots of room to swim. For example, tetras like plenty of space to swim.

you don't want to "squeeze" too much room out for the fish to swimm, clipping back and replant the clippings will help out greatly, or throw out the clippings which ever seems to give the tank the best look for you
