What kind of female Betta is this?

Reptillia May 20, 2008 06:21 AM

I am beginner. Although I have had my male for about a year. Can someone tell me if she is a certain kind of betta? She was so unusual I had to have her. Thanks for help.

Could be a crowntail, although my opinion is from males' pictures on the internet. She is a beauty. Are you planning on breeding? I would not recommend this right away since you are a beginner, but if you are interested I'd be glad to give you a plethora of information on it. I wanted to but both of mine died from gill infections. Poor things.
Was your female with the normal bettas or with the halfmoons and crowntails? Better yet, how much did you pay for her? Any more than $3-4 and it's probably a crowntail.

Others have told me she is a crown tail. I got her from PetSmart and she was with all 4 of the other females. She looked so different I had to have her. She was 2.89 like the other females. Males were 5-6 dollars. Thats why I went online to see what she was...I had No idea about all the different kinds. I also found out my male is a VT but upon taking pics of him discovered he has a skin fungus...so no breeding right now. I have had him for about a year and he makes great bubblenests so I'm sure when he feels better he will make a great Dad. I'm sorry to hear about your pair..I hope you try again. Thanks for the help and good luck.

That's totally awesome. Congrats on the good find!

You should probably get some Melafix for the skin fungus (either that or it is the other fix, I can't remember off the top of my head). I'm sure he'll be just find after a little TLC.

I will definitely try again, but I have to wait until I graduate because right now I only have enough time for the pets I have. I will get back at it soon.

If you don't have a lot of information about betta breeding, check out the link below. It's quite useful. The girl who runs it is a successful breeder who is passing along her experience.

Thank you for the info and the link. I started medicating and he already looks better..I think I caught it early. I understand what you mean about taking care of all your pets...they are a big responsibility.....I have 3 dogs 3 cats and a bunch of reptiles....the more I read about breeding Bettas the more I realized I couldn't take that on right now....thats alot of work! Anyway good luck and thanks again.
