Help with my FW atlantic stingray!!

cantrells3 Sep 08, 2008 03:16 PM

I have two atlantic stingrays at the moment one 7" female and a 13" male.I've had the female for a while now and she seems to be doing great, eats out of my hand and i can tell she recognizes when its feeding time. When i first got her i had gotten a 6" male and he lived with her for about a week and i woke up one morning to him just sitting in the tank (without any curling) but he wasn't breathing, Now my large male has been swimming around and trying to eith throw up or poop something out and i can't figure out why! He then usually just lays down and twitches for a minute and goes back to swimming. can anyone help before i lose him too!!

I would love to be able to help your Dasyatids. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information on stingray diseases out on the net. I would suggest that you look at the link below, and possibly post a message on there. It seems that that forum is all about stingrays, and the moderator there has plenty of experience keeping stingrays. I only have the knowledge from ichthyology class, and unfortunately we didn't learn about the diseases.

I will promote your post on this forum, and hopefully you can get a good answer between the two sites. I wish you the best of luck with your beautiful, unique pets. Please keep us updated.
