Motoro Red Belly

nrhulett Nov 21, 2008 03:28 PM

I just recieved my first freshwater stingray today, I ordered him so he was shipped to my house, he is in pretty good shape. . . fat, no dent in his forehead but his belly doesnt look so good, kinda pink and some gray around the edges of his disc. Should I be concerned? Also he seems like he cant sit still on the bottom of the tank, kinda looks like he keeps floating up, any ideas on what is going on.

I wish I could help you, but I'm mostly a common fish problem kind of girl. I will, however, promote your post in hopes someone with ray experience can help. There are a few people that have experience on our boards.
Has he been eating? What are the water parameters?

Thanks for the concern. My water is perfect the tank has been cycled and the pH is at 6.5 the temp is roughly 75-78. I have a few snails that take of the algae but I also added algae fix which I just read may be poisonous to rays?! My substrate is tahitian moon sand. All my lights are off to help prevent stress. Any he may be going into the "death curl" I'm not sure how to tell though.

I really don't send people to other aquarium boards, but in this case, I am really worried that your ray may die before someone here can answer your question. I have a link for you on how to care for a motoro ray. There is also a forum that is on that site. I think they are more knowledgeable about rays.
Please let us know if you find out anything because I am always trying to learn new things. Plus, the next time someone has this problem, they would be able to get immediate help from me. I always try to help asap because usually it's too late for the animal... however, there's still hope for others. Hopefully there's still hope for your ray. Wishing you the best of luck for your beauty.
