Information needed to help

phishie Dec 16, 2008 06:53 PM

Hello all. I think it is necessary to let everyone know the general things I need to know in order to better understand what's going on in your tank. Since most illnesses are caused by poor water quality, it is necessary to know the water quality. I would need to know the ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, pH, temperature, and how long your tank has been set up. If you don't have a water testing kit, your local fish store should do readings for you for free.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Just tested and here are the results:

Temp: 78.9 F
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 10 (barely pink on the test strip)
Nitrite:0
Hardness: 150
Alkalinity: about 100 (higher than the 80 "moderate" not quite 120-180 "ideal"
pH: 7.4

Set up since Feb. 8, 2009
Products used in the tank: Two Marineland filters (Bio-wheel 150)
Seachem Prime, Stability.
I have used Kordon Amquel is Nitrates and Nitrites are high. Used it twice. I keep a log of all water changes, tests, and anything I add to the tank, fish or otherwise.

Let me know if there is anything else Thanks for the help!!!

i think tank size would also be important info

It is, but normally people tell me how big their tank is and what kind of fish is sick. Most of the time I don't get the water quality information, which is very important for a proper diagnosis.
