I have had an oranda and a ranchu in a 55 gallon with no heater, bubble wand, and a whisper filter *double* They were fine and healthy for six months and then they both got really sluggish and stopped eating. They had or have swim bladder and i am feeding them peas and brine shrimp. The oranda is pretty much back to normal and is feeding regularly. However, my main concern is the ranchu he has these red lacertions under his scales and they seem to have some sort of fungal growth on them. These wounds are not open but have been on him for about a month, he can still not swim and just lays on his side on the bottom of the tank, he is still very alive. I have very clean water and ph hardness etc, i have dosed them with salt, tried a seachem anti fungal medicine. But the ranchu seems to stay in the same condition.
Please any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated i am at my wits ends with this ranchu, i wish he would get better, i just dont know what to do???

The red under the scales sounds like ulcers, and they may have a bacterial infection or two. I would treat them with Melafix and if you want you can treat Pimafix with the Melafix. Neither will do any harm to your fish if nothing is wrong. Keep me posted.

Melafix (and Pimafix) are both natural treatments (Melafix is made from tea tree oils). The melafix is a bacterial infection treatment, while pimafix is used to treat fungal infections. I always recommend natural treatments if at all possible. It is better on the fish that is already stressed. Then if natural doesn't work then the heavier treatments can be used. If you would like a full detail description of the mela- or pima- fix treatments, the link below will be helpful.
