help rescued fish have hiccups

tanyasweet Feb 09, 2009 09:38 AM

I know this sounds odd but over the weekend I rescued 5 fish, 3 Blackskirt tetras, 1 Bala shark, 1 Gourami, 1 huge pleco, the pleco seems fine hes about 13in. so I put him in a 40 gal tank. So now i'm completely puzzled because the other 4 all have what looks like the hiccupos. The other five are all in a 10 gal tank, I know this is to small but I did'nt have a larger tank to put them in and I could'nt leave them to die. I can't put them in any of my other tanks cause a week ago the people treated them for fungus using Maloxy and I don't want to infect my other tanks. What would cause "hiccups " in fish and how do I treat this?

I don't know of any hiccup disorders. That is really strange. They may have a bit of a swim bladder problem. You could try frozen peas. That would help if it was a swim bladder thing. If that doesn't work, let me know. Keep me posted on the status, please.
