sexing convict cichlids

can anyone tell me how big or how old male convicts are before they grow their fin extensions or do they pretty much always have them? ive had 2 convicts for a month (approx. 1-3/4" now and their dorsal fins are definitly pointed, but not extended the way ive seen in some pictures. any info is appreciated

In general, fish have all the fins, bones, and organs they will have until they die. So given that information, I would say your convict should already have the pointed dorsal. Maybe it's just not as pronounced as the other fish you have seen in pictures.

Generally the female will have some copper color around her belly ,this goes for the albino(pink convict)as well
