After lots of calaboration with another moderator, we think it is a mix between a jack dempsey and a dolphin cichlid. Where did you get it from?
It has characteristics of both species. The lips, eyes, and fins reminded me a of jack dempsey (one of my favorites) while the indent in the head is specific for the dolphin cichlids. Hope this helps.

im the fish guy at petco, and a few days ago some kid just walked in with a bucket and told me his cichlid was too big for his tank (hate when people do that)he had absolutely no idea what he had...all he could tell me was "its a cichlid" so i took it home and put it in a 29 gallon while i set up a 75 for him. thanks for the names...ill look it up and see what i get.
Yeah, I hate when people do that too. It is in deed a cichlid, but it has to be a hybrid because it doesn't look like any one particular fish. It is very beautiful though. It reminds me of a jack dempsey, but it reminds the other moderator of the dolphin cichlid. It should be very happy in the 75 gallon.
Jacks need at least a 55 as a minimum requirement. I am not sure about dolphin cichlids as I have never heard of them until the other moderator told me of them. Good luck.

i kept doing my research when i discovered a picture in next months tropical fish hobbyist magazine. turns out its a frontosa.
I dunno about that one, the shape of the fish pictured doesn't match a frontosa at all really, similar in color, but shape is a bit off. I've looked around and can't seem to find what it might be, maybe he's a mutt...

I know its been a few months since this post has been made, but I figured I'd chip in. It looks like some sort of Tilapia to me... doesn't look like a hybrid. They're a cichlid from Africa that can get somewhat big and dominate an entire tank (in my experience). There are several species I believe and I'm not sure which kind the fish in the picture is.
Hope that helps
Tilapia buttikoferi is what I'm thinking. The Zebra Tilapia.
