cheapest live bearer?

goregrind May 18, 2009 02:39 PM

i purchased 3 pair of guppies at $3.75 a pair a few weeks back, 2 individuals died a few days later and now im seeing a bunch of baby guppies swimming around. they look nice but i have them as a food source. so im hoping that i get enough to make it worth it.

is there any other live bearing fish that is cheaper or breeds fast enough to pay for themselves faster?

Most places have feeder guppies, just plain ol guppies you can get at like 10 or 20 cents a fish, but you may have to ask about them. they breed like guppies, because they are guppies, lol, so they pay themselves off pretty quickly.

in my town theonly guppiesive seen are the fancy ones. im going to ask about feeder guppies though, so far i spent 11.25 for 6, two died and my total live number is about 10.

i dont mind the dead ones because they are food anyway

Guppies gestation period is only 28 days. They can have anywhere from 10 - 100 babies each time. Shortly after giving birth they are pregnant again. I had lots and lots of babies. Guppies are called the millions fish for a reason. They should pay for themselves rather quickly.
