Live Rock/Dead Rock

creptiles Jul 29, 2008 12:09 PM

So i have read that if you put dead rock(just normal rock) in a salt water fish tank it will become live rock with some time.
But i am seting up a salt water fish tank with just live sand and and water(as well as the filter and stuff) Would this still work.

Thanks
Cody

Hi Cody. I'm sure that's partially true because all live rock is, is a rock with live bacterial cultures on it. The rock itself is not alive. Hope this helps.

I've heard this too. I'm going to give it a try, but i think I'm going to use live sand and a little live rock with normal rock mixed in. I just cant afford 150 lbs of rock at $7 a pop. I'll set it all up and cycle it for quite a bit before adding any fish
