pennant rosella upper beak

gonzo1000 Jan 07, 2010 07:03 AM

Hi!
Can anybody give me any pointers please?

My pennant rosella is 11 years old and has until recently been fine. Over the last couple of months however, his upper beak has been growing rather fast, and the bottom portion has gone rather dark. I had it trimmed around the middle of december, but it looks like it needs doing again. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

Any information will be most welcome.

Thanks.

Has your rosella been completely vetted? The reason why I ask is that the beak overgrowing too quickly or becoming malformed/discolored can be a sign of liver disease/failure or certain bacterial infections. In those cases your bird would need medication or a special diet to help it and your vet would be able to assist you with the testing and the possible treatment or cure.
