How soon can baby canaries be separated from their parents? Two chicks hatched three weeks ago and the male seems determined to kill or mate with them. He has always has been a very aggressive bird. Today I removed the female and the two chicks to another cage because the chicks were huddleded on the bottom of the cage, all fluffed up, and the male seemed to be attacking them. They now seem much better after spending most of the day with the female in a separate cage. Can they eat on their own by now?
I raised four chicks years ago and they all lived happily in the same cage with the four parents. The two males I had then seemed very tame compared to this over-sexed aggressive male I have now. He is a fantastic singer, you can hear him all over the house.
