TAG's runny nose .. HELP!

droorizz Jan 31, 2008 04:52 PM

Hi to all.. i had my TAG for these last past 5 years, unfortunately he's been having a runny nose for almost 2 weeks now. For the moment i'm keeping him indoors and warm. He doesn't seem to be annoyed or anything not even letargic. He's having a 7 day course of oxtetracylcline vits, but he already had doxycycline before that!
Could anyone gve me a helping hand? Cos i'm affraid he'll get worse and it might be quite dangerous !

Thanks ..

Kind Regards

Andrew

Doxycycline is an over the counter med for non-specific bacteria used for birds and some other animals. I am guessing you purchased it through a pet store or animal supply store without a prescription, if I am incorrect please tell me. I would suggest taking your bird to an avian vet. The runny nose can be quite dangerous and can be a symptom of a serious respiratory infection even with no other real symptoms. Without getting an actual avian vet to check out your TAG you will not know how serious this is. Rather than keeping spending money on over the counter meds which DO NOT work you can spend the amount on a vet and actually get a real working treatment for your bird. If you did see a vet was it an actual avian vet and did they do a full check (blood, gram stain, etc) to make sure the runny nose was not just a sign of something more serious? If you did see a vet please tell me what the vet actually said was wrong with your bird and maybe we can offer more help! Thanks

Thanks so much for your reply...
I'm from Malta, and believe me when i tell you that we dont have any avian vets around it really freaks me out.. cos everytime one of my birds get sick i always have to rely on information i have gathered over the years. I happen to work in the veterinary market, we actually supply meds! I am now waiting for pure oxytetracycline! is that better than the doxy ?
I'm really worried cos as you said it could be very dangerous! and i cant find any professional help.

Thanks once again for your advice !
