On vacation for two weeks and worried

lovie0319 Dec 08, 2008 09:42 PM

We are going away for a two week vacation, and I am freaking out now that I have decided that is best for my lovebird to stay in the country, safe. The country we are travelling to, does not have a clear direction on avian requirements, and I have been "warned" that to the official discretion, the bird can be 'sacrified', if he feels that I do not fill all the requirements needed. That been said, my lovie is not flying with us.

I am very stressed as to what will happen and how will he feel being left behind. He knows my friend, has been to their house, and knows their lovebird, who has stayed with us, when my friends have been on vacation.

Any advice on this?

If this is people he is already used to it really shouldn't stress your lovie as much as it is stressing you Just relax. Since they are familiar with lovebirds and with your bird there shouldn't be any problems. Take a deep breath count to 10 and enjoy your vacation. Then if possible bring a treat or toy back to your lovie to show him you are still his loving "person".

The main time someone needs to worry when leaving a bird is if they have never been away from their birds and have never had anyone else help out in their care or even have them visit their birds. If you have a well rounded bird that is used to the care or attention from other people then a vacation should not be a problem. There are many birds that will seem a little moody when you return but even that seems to go away either in the first day or first couple days. Just make sure your friend knows your usual schedule, foods etc and it should be an easy transition.
