Young Pekins Dumped at Local Lake...

crzyduckldy73 Jul 05, 2009 09:33 PM

Hello all,
I am new to this, but I am a duck owner,(2 Runners, 2 Cayugas, 2 Mallards, and 3 new Runner-Cayuga babies!) Well, tonight my fiance and I were out on our motorcycle and stopped at a car show near a lake the next city over, when we noticed a large group of Pekin Ducks swimming and hunting for food near the waters edge. They then meandered up to greet a lady with some crackers and I noticed two were limping, one pretty bad, so I asked her for a few crackers, and was able to easily catch the really gimpy one, and his foot was pretty messed up. (By this time, everyone was in shock that I was able to catch and hold the duck...city people, lol) Along comes a guy who informed me that eariler this week, he witnessed some kids grab one of these ducks and BURN HIM! This explains the foot injury. (I am getting mad as I write this.) So I now have 2 of them in my new duck house my fiance built for the babies that we hatched.
Now, I do live in a suburb, I have a permit for the ducks I have...I dont think it would go over well with the city if I brought home 13 more, lol. So If anyone knows someone, or wants to give them a home...please let me know,Again there are 13 total,(both limpy ones included)They are still young.. The drake has not grown his drake curly feathers, but voice gives it away, and they will eat out of your hand with little fear. I will help transport if need be.

Did you ever figure out what to do about the ducks? Where are you located at? Do you still need home? I would take a drake pekin. Then hens should be easier to rehome.
