Grass types for limited space

Deanhil Apr 19, 2005 03:40 PM

Hi all

We are about to rejuvinate our grass paddocks (we hope). The plan is to thatch, lime, fertilize, and seed. We live in Southern New England and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the type of seed. This is NOT for haying purposes (I wish) but for limited grazing... we usually give them the treat of an afternoon graze for an hour or two .. after an adjustment time to get use to grass again. The horses main feed is from their hay. The soil is mostly a bank run gravel that drains well...

So my friends... what would you suggest?

Dear Dean,
I'm in south central virginia. We have a dept of agriculture that gives talks and such on that very thing....interesting thing is they will come and look at your pasture and recommend what needs to be done ......fertlizer grass ect...for free(if you are within a 30 mile radius of them) maybe check around your area and see if you have something similar! It was really a wonderful experience for us.....we had them come out about 2 years ago and we now have enough grass for our 2 to graze full time.
