I'm tired of this worthless tack!!! Where can I get something BETTER?!

I'm so tired of this. 3 lead ropes have broken. 1 halter has broken, leading to another "AHH MY HORSE IS LOOSE" panic attack, made 10x worse by the fact that she was halterless. Lucky for me, someone caught her (thank god she was the one to get loose and not one of the boys, that would've required tranqs, seriously). Anyway, the lead ropes. Dad was leading Pistol into the trailer, and I was standing behind holding onto Lacy and watching. Pistol didn't even object, and the lead rope simply fell apart. It was brand new! Pistol was even confused!!! He walked up to me as if to say, "uh, did you see that? Did I do that? Ok..." Then, I had Boo tied out and I walked away for a moment to get something from inside the barn, POP! One simple pull and it just came apart. Lucky for me again, the horse came running to me. Hah, I think it scared him. The last lead rope broke on the rope part, started tearing up. The halter I had on my mare, and I was walking her in the snow to see how she'd react. She likes to crowd, so I pushed her away and accidentally shocked her (static) and it startled her so she jumped a little. Hardly a tug and the halter just fell apart like it was a big jump. She stood there, looked at me... thought about it... made a big gallop for the woods, stopped at edge of them, came back, let me rub all over her, but when I opened the barn door to get the lead rope back the barn door just decided "hey, i'm gonna make a scary noise today" and it spooked her, so off she ran into the woods.
I also noticed on these training shows with Parelli and Lyons and Clinton etc., they don't use any of these pathetic lead ropes. Their ropes are long and have a very different hook on the end. What the heck should I get and where can I get it? Anybody know? I'm tired of this garbage, I want something I can use to work with Pistol and TRUST my safety with.

Most tack stores have a variety - from cheapy to megaexpensive - tack to choose from. I usually go with the middle of the road because the cheap stuff is usually just that, cheap!

If you don't have a tack store close by that has good equipment, try places like Jeffers, Millers or Valley Vet Supplies. I've also had lots of luck with eBay for my show stuff, and I'm willing to bet you can probably find plain halters and leads there too!

Good luck!
