I THOUGHT he was a GELDING?!?!?!

ElusiveKimmaby May 07, 2005 06:27 PM

Well what a pleasant surprise to look outside and see... my GELDING, Pistol, mounting my mare Lacy, who was just in heat 2 weeks ago! He's not forceing himself on her either, she's putting herself in position. What the HECK is going ON?!?!?! He's supposed to be a GELDING!!! And... well she shouldn't be even thinking about going into heat right now!!!
Should I sell one of them? Maybe both of them, cause she's a ***** if you know what I mean. AUGH! Why did this week have to get so complicated?

There could be a bunch of things going on there.
He very well could be a gelding...my gelding mounted mares all the time. He could have just been gelded late and still like the girls
Another possiblity is his testicle did not descend out of his abdomen, making him APPEAR like a gelding. You might want to have that looked at. He could still breed if that is the case, and also could lead to some health issues.

oh, and the mounting shouldnt be an issue unless it bothers or worries you
Just know when horses mount, they will naturally bite onto the mare's crest. You'll be able to tell if she doesnt want him there She'll give him a prompt kick.

Thank goodness, someone responded! I'm not alone in here!!!

We're having the vet come out (finally) sometime this week. I'm pretty sure that he was simply gelded and nobody told him!
Which is really a shame, because he may as well be a stallion... I deserve some gorgeous baby foals for the craziness I put up with in this one!!!

hahaha, ya, i had a paint gelding that was like that. He thought he was hot stuff around those mares. Silly thing.

A lot of geldings do that though.
