HELP!! Can't get horse up/ Colic

silversymphony62 Mar 18, 2008 04:15 AM

About 6 hours ago we found out that my horse had grass colicked. We have been walking him and letting him lay for short periods of time because he wasn't rolling. But about an hour ago he layed down and now I can't get him up! Help, what are some things I can do to get him up? There are only two of us, by the way. PLEASE HELP!!

Absolutely. I hope you did. If you get a chance, please write back and let us know how he's doing. When my horse has colicked, the vet tubes him and flushes him with mineral oil, but gives a pain reliever shot first.

I sure hope your horse is better. I live out in the boondocks so it takes a little bit for a vet to get to me. I keep Banamine on hand, it is a pain releiver and gives them relief within 30 minutes. It is injectable so you have to know how to give a shot to use it. It has been a life saver in cases of severe colic. Anyone who owns a horse should try and keep it on hand if at all possible.
