Haflingers Mane Colors

Do Haflingers mane colors change as they get a little older. My friend has one with a gray mane and tail, but I was told it was lighter when she got her. I am confused as to why it now looks gray. I don't have haflingers so I don't know. I can't find another one anywhere with a gray mane and tail.
