I've noticed that most people keep their t's in very small enclosures. Will it hurt anything that i keep mine in fairly large cages? They can find their food

Something spacious isn't a huge problem so long as the cage isn't tall. Tarantulas climb up the sides of their enclosure and are prone to falling, which in a tarantulas case, can prove fatal.
I keep them in 10 gallon tanks with about 6" of organic topsoil
That sounds like a good set-up to me.
Yeah, 10 gallon is not on overly huge aquarium. I've kept many in 10 gals.

I didn't figure it would be all that unreasonable. I just keep hearing about people keeping them in cages 2 times their leg spread and didn't know if there was a reason
