sphinxmoth Oct 15, 2010 03:05 PM

I found a sphinx moth today. it is favoring its left front leg and is trying to fly but cant. there was a wind storm last night and i think thats whay did it in... i dont like seeing it suffer and dont want to kill it. Is there anyone out there who can take it from me and care for it and knows how or can tell me EXACTLY how or any places in minnesota usa(stcloud area) that can take it(like rescues or something) I hate to see it suffer. and dont have the heart to kill it and dont want to. I love animals and everything alive and hate seeing it like this. its been fluttering its wings for the last hour and half now i think its giving up cause its just sitting here. and im at a place where im really not supposed to have insects inside. Let me know ASAP please.

Sure it's not the answer you hoped for but there are no "rescue" sites for moths. Adult moths as a rule are very short lived, usually only long enough to mate and lay eggs. Many species don't even have working mouths... living only long enough to breed they aren't needed.

Hate to say it since I to don't believe in killing things if you aren't going to eat it... but if it really seems to you it has been injured it would be best just to end it quickly.

If it helps at all there is just as good a chance it's not injured, you just happened to find it at the end of it's life cycle, the storm itself just taxed what are it's very limited resources. The inability to fly or walk properly at it's age is no different than that for any other living thing.
