Can we identify this Psillidae?

pilonm Aug 17, 2011 09:45 AM

Hello all,

Here is a picture of a Psillidae photographed at Sherbrooke, Quebec (near Vermont) last June 11, 2010 on a Malus tree.

Do you think that we can identify the genus or maybe the species?

Thank you,

Michel

Fairly certain (98% or so certain )it's Psylla mali... an introduced species here in our neck of the woods.

Thank you Gerry for your help with this one. But I prefer to stay safe and will identify it as Psylla sp. because I didn't received confirmation of others forums/people...

Cheers,

Michel

Perhaps I should join one of those other forums... with a different name of course... and confirm my own I.D. there?

Hello Gerry,

Finally I think you are right for Cacopsylla mali is the only one hosted by Malus in Canada.

Thank your help...

You know, there are so much errors on the web that I don't want my website contributes to those identification errors. That's why I preferred usually to stay safe with identification and that's why I usually do cross-reference identification in order to be assured of it (if you understand what I mean). So please, don't subscribe to different forums under different names in order to confirm an identification

Cheers,

Michel

I wouldn't join another forum to do that, was a joke... I understand your desire to have a correct identification... glad to hear my opinion was seconded and look forward to offering you and others some amount of help.

Hello Gerry,

Thank you for your nice comments about my pictures. It is very appreciated.

Yes of course, I maintain a website not just about insects but about all the fauna and flora.

Here is the link:

parcours.pilonm.org

The site is in french (I am from Quebec) but the pictures can be seen in any language you want

The link to the insects section is the following:
parcours.pilonm.org/ParcoursEntomologique.htm

You will notice also that you can search a species using french, english and/or latin (scientific) names.

If you wish I can add you to my mailing list which let you know when I add pictures (fauna/flora) to my website (usually twice a week). Just let me know if you are interested

Cheers,

Michel

Thanks for the link, I have it bookmarked now so I don't need the updates... going to take me awhile to look through all that's there right now... you have some truly nice photos in there.
