Help with Vietnamese Centipede please!!!

cambrianskeleton Sep 12, 2011 02:09 AM

Hello,
I purchased a Vietnamese Pede approx 6-ish weeks ago at a convention. When I got him home & put him in the tank, he wasn't very active. I use eco-earth substrate with a bit of moss, which I now removed to help with the situation:
Pede has not eaten at all since he's been here, and he is always found laying on his back, as if he is paralyzed & can't move. Ya, I mean completely upside down on his back. When I turn him back over he walks -usually- fine again, but every morning & night he's positioned on his back again, not moving until he's sprayed or poked with a spoon. What can be going on? The tank is at the correct temperature always, and he is constantly being sprayed. He has a log to play in and is fed appropriately, ususally crickets. When I do spray him, he tends to become active again, but still not enough where it's normal, as in order for him to move I have to personally flip him back over with a spoon so he can walk. I'd say this goes on for about 85% of the entire day/night. Not even sure how he flips himself over, and obviously no idea why he does it. Any ideas?

First stop stressing out your pede. Put the Eco earth back in its vivarium. Stop misting the pede. Moisten the soil in it's enclosure. Perhaps buy a UTH by Zoo Med. Usually heating up the enclosure which increases humidity livens up the pede. If he on his back, leave him alone. He may be getting ready to molt. The more you bother him, the more stressed out he's gonna get. Try something other than crickets. They sometimes scare timid pedes. Try mealworms or waxworms.
Last but not least, maybe you just bought an unhealthy pede. Try First Choice Reptiles $15 & $15 Priority Mail. You can't beat that. RSVP. jacuoco@aol.com
