Macaria Moth to identify

pilonm Dec 25, 2011 08:25 AM

Hello all,

Here is a moth I photographed in July at Quebec, Canada (near Vermont).

I think it is a geometridae, genus Macaria but hesitate for the species.

Can you please help me?

Thank you very much in advance,

Michel

Can't help you out with a positive ID here... either Macaria fissinotata or Macaria submarmorata... color and patterns of both can vary so much they start looking like one another... if it were for my own ID I'd say fissinotata simply because the white marking you see at the tip of the forewing tends to stay fairly pronounced throughout all their color variations.

Sorry I can't help with certainty.

Gerry
