My neighbor abandoned 2 cats and I adopted one of them. His name is Elwood but I'd like to know what type/breed he is. Can anyone tell me from these pictures or refer me to the correct forum? Thanks, Fred.

I should mention something about him. He has striking yellow eyes. He is almost all black (with short fur and sheds very little) except for white on his paws and underneath his body. He is a scaredy cat by nature but to his owner (me) he is extremely affectionate. He always wants his head rubbed and will rub his head against anything constantly. He lets me pet his whole body and has to snuggle up close when going to bed. Elwood is neutered and he is a fighter with other cats. I've seen him stalk and go after a neighbor's cat before (both are boys). He meows a lot when he wants something.
Hope that helps.
He is a very cute domestic shorthair. The coloring is commonly refered to as tuxedo. No special breed though, he is the best kind.....like all of mine..a cat.

Thanks very much. The other cat (which my other neighbor more or less adopted) is a whole different kind of cat but probably a longhaired domestic.
I have heard of black and white cats marked like yours referred to as "Tuxedo Cats". Not an official breed, but a descriptor for the markings. If you search for "Tuxedo Cat" on Google, you'll see many, many like your beautiful cat on there.
Socks Clinton (former first cat) was a Tuxedo. I recall back when the Clinton's were in office, Cat Fancy had a big spread on Tuxedo Cats and a contest for the one that most looks like Socks.
Your cat is beautiful -- is his tummy white, too?

I'm looking at his tummy now. He doesn't have much at all there, not even a solid line extending all the way down underneath. Just a little on the top and towards the bottom. Looks like there is no shortage of different amounts of white on different cats. Thanks for the info
Fred
But, most importantly, was his tummy soft and warm and squishy? That is the main purpose I asked you to look.
He is a cutie.
