Frustrated!!!!!!

wynter_my_pet Jun 07, 2009 12:19 AM

Hi my name is Senel, and I have five beautiful cats but two of them have been acting out for the last five to six months. Sweatpea is peeing and pooing everywhere including the litter box. Ladybird on the other hand has a fascination for spraying on the stove. Now all my cats are fixed; changes that have occurred were the passing of my father-in-law and Sweatpea was always with my father-in-law so i am not sure if that is part of it. All this has lead us to confine the cats seperately unless their outside. We love all our cats and want to keep all of them for as long as we live and they live and its very depressing that we might to consider giving them up if we don't come across a solution. pls we need help and/or advice.

thanx

Hi,

First of all, you should not automatically assume that these behaviors do not have a physical cause. Any drastic change in behavior is a red flag indicating that a vet visit is in order. If all is well physically, then you are dealing with behavior issues.

You do refer in your post to THE litterbox. If you have only one for 5 cats that is a big problem. Ideally you should have one per cat and one extra, so you should have 6. And these boxes must be kept very, very clean if the cats are expected to use them.

The death of a family member can be very stressful for a cat, but again, you need to consider that there can also be something physical going on. When a cat avoids a litterbox there is always a reason. Please try to be patient and find out what that is before you get so frustrated with your cats.

Please make an appointment with your vet and let us know how it goes.

Regards,
PHKitkat

Thanx for the advice but vet appointment has been made. i have more than one litterbox. Everything you said i know already know i'm taking them to the vet without a question but i am not sure what could be causing the act of spraying when she has been fixed before she had the urge. a UA was done and trip phos crystals (3 )was found in her urine. but no growth was present after 48 hrs after a urine C&S.
