I have an almost year old kitty we got from the shelter back in Dec, such a lovable very vocal male, he is declawed so he wouldnt scratch our microfiber sectional, instead what is he doin? EATING IT along the top he has chewed it to where the stuffing is coming out, so i covered it with a towel he lays on, he is now eating the towel...so we wake the other morning and he has chewed a corner edhe of the cushion...now i was cleaning the couch this morning and he has ventured to the center peice now, i have sprayed the couch (nasty smelling) No Boundry's and its not working, i have no clue why he eats things, he also eats socks, show strings, to the point where he chews them right off..i have switch foods thinking its his belly, he is now on Science diet sensitive stomach not that apparently, i love him he is MY cat and follows and talks to me all the time, but my husband is getting mad cause now we have this expensive couch that is ruiend...any help here? Oh my, eating the couch. That is a new one for me. Now I have had dogs that eat furniture when they are puppies but my cats have never eaten furniture. Had one that chewed on paper, but that was easy....don't leave paper out if you want to retain it. Have you talked to your Vet? You might try that for suggestions, perhaps spray the couch with Bitter Apple. That works on some cats. Although I had one that actually liked it, most don't.

Yeah you would think my German Shepherd would have chewed the couch too, but never did..LOL it may come down to me going to the Vet cause i love this cat, he is sweet and very vocal to me, but i cant have him eating my couch, socks or antyhing else, thank god he doesnt eat electric cords, he is very agressive too, i mean him and the shepherd will play but it seems westy (the cat) is mean to Niko (the dog) bites, attacks, he has great hunting focus he is a great cat overall, like i said a shelter cat, and even 2mo after we got him we paid 800.00 for a hernia surgery so he is loved they dont de-teeth do they? LOL J/K there has to be something

The only thing that has taught my two cats not to chew on things is cayenne pepper. They actually like the taste of the sour apple and bitter yuck stuff. After a couple times of tasting the pepper, they won't even go near it if they smell it.

Hi There,

I wonder if there is a way to make the sofa unappealing to your cat. Maybe by covering it with something that has a rougher texture, or trying one of those "scat mats" or the product called Scat that comes in a can and uses a motion detector. The can sprays and makes what sounds like a hissing noise to a cat when they get within the range you set. Or perhaps, since most cats hate citrus, you can try using something with a strong orange smell.

Regards,

Thanks for the advise, i actually took him to the Vet she had no clue, she has to contact a cat behaviorist, OMG and she said most likely kitty prozac? wow...we changed his diet cause of the bulimia like eating habits and she told me about scat mat as well, i hope something works here its crazy
