electricity in hair

ncat Jan 26, 2010 10:49 AM

I have a long haired persian cat who has a major fear of grooming. When I adopted him he was covered with mats and obviously never groomed by the initial owners. I have tried to work with him and now he allows 5 long grooming strokes with a rake groomer. After that he starts to get aggitated and I always end with a treat. I have taken him to a groomer who gave up and could not handle him. I once had him shaved to a lion cut when he was sedated for teeth cleaning. But not all vets will do grooming with sedation.Plus a $300 fee seemed steep. I have bought a electric groomer but once he hears the noise he bolts and goes crazy. Now with the col weather , his fur is full of "electricity". Does anyone have any suggestions. I have used a dryer sheet to rub on his fur in the past.

Hi There,

When I used to show my cats as Household Pets, I knew several breeders who recommended dryer sheets for static coats. I would be concerned about the chemicals in the sheets, however.

I'll do a little searching and if I find something for this problem specifically for cats I will post the info for you.

Take Care,

Hi Again,

Foster and Smith have several grooming products for cats, one of which helps with coat static. If you want to check it out, it's the Freshening Spray, which is the very last product on this page:

Hope this is helpful
