Hi There,

What you refer to as "rice worms" are really tapeworms and what you are seeing are actual segments from a much larger worm. There are really only 2 ways that a cat can get tapeworms, so it isn't much of a mystery at all.

The most common way is by swallowing fleas. This can happen even after a cat has gotten a flea treatment, if a flea jumps on the cat and is swallowed. If your cat has access to outside, this is more likely to happen, although even we can bring fleas into our homes on our shoes and clothing.

The other way in which cats can become infested with tapeworms is if he or she eats rodents that are infested. This type of worm is a bit different but would look the same to the naked eye as the other type of tapeworm.

Hope this clears things up for you

I think maybe I should give a lil more back ground info but first just to let you know I did take him to the vet today and they treated him again this time with a pill if your interested in knowing the name let me know and I will let you know its on his papers from the vet...

this lil kitty came to me from my cuz that was staying with my mom at the time from what I came to understand is that he came from a junk yard and when they gave him to me they thought he was alot older but he was I would guess about 3weeks old and was eatting sold food so he had a rough start to life....now hes kind of one of them cats that goes and hides when other ppl are here but is fine around me and my beagle all though he does pick on her a lil bit....so far the only problems he has had is a uti and the rice worms now 3times but I hope now that he has been to the vet again that we will have this sorted out for the last time....is there something that causes him to get them more then other cats or is it not going away is what I keep thinking??? and how do you keep all fleas away not everything is 100 percent I dont want him to keep getting these???
