Just Checking In...

cyclopsgrl Nov 02, 2009 06:17 PM

Pookey sure was glad we set our clocks back an hour yesterday. He got to sleep in an extra hour (23 vice 24 hours).

He's doing well. I take him for his six month check-up the first part of December (he's 18 now). He's been doing well, no issues whatsoever so far. But, I always hold my breath until I get back from the vets. SOMETHING is bound to show up at some point.

I am going back to get my Bachelor's Degree in January. It has been 23 years since school! I have an Associate's and some credits from the Air Force, so I am about halfway done with a Bachelor's in Management. I want to get one now for promotion potential, but since it will take a while one class at a time (I work very long hours and can't really take more than that), my main motivator is for income when I retire.

I don't have a "pension" plan, I am relying on my 401K. With a Bachelor's Degree, you can make $75 a day substitute teaching. They have a lot of openings. It would sure supplement my income and not be a full-time commitment. I am 13 years away from retiring, but it might take me that long to get the degree, LOL.

My first class is Algebra in January. Goodness... I will probably dread this decision...

Hope all is well with you guys as we head into the holidays. We're cutting back this year quite a bit. A lot of layoffs in the family, etc. We're all helping each other out as we can. I hope you all are doing well.

All are well here. Work has been busy but we had to do some laying off too and that was hard on everyone. The rest of us have to pick up the slack. Things are just tough all over. Glad all is well there.

Tessa, I am glad you are doing well. Did you have any trick or treaters this year? Everyone I talk to had less than 10. I ask because I am eating Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins from a full bag left from the trick or treaters that never showed up. I am rationing myself to two small ones a night. For now...

Will send you some of our trick or treaters. Normally we get about 20, so I made 30 bags of goodies, ran though all of those, then had to hit hubby's stash of kitkat bars. Total= about 35-40. The best was a set of brothers who were dressed up as The Blues Brothers. Complete with sunglasses and fedora. Great imagination!

Tammy,
Good luck in getting your Bachelor's. I don't think you will regret this decision.

My husband was let go from his job in August. It's a long story, but they had said that he violated some policy of theirs. We got a letter from the state saying that he isn't eligible for unemployment because of that. He could appeal it, but hasn't so far. I think he should appeal it, but that's up to him, can't force him to do things.

I'm still working fulltime at the hospital. We're managing OK, don't spend as much money now as when both of us were working.

The cats are doing well. They are 12 years old and in good health, according to the vet. Quentin recently had his teeth cleaned. Wasn't too happy when he got home from the vet's, but the procedure went smoothly. Star will need her teeth cleaned sometime also. We'll have to wait a month or so before taking her in. That was the only thing the vet found, that the cats' teeth needed to be cleaned. Otherwise, no problems.

I'm currently enjoying the football season. The Colts are still undefeated. Some good games are coming up in the next few weeks. That's about all going on here.

Ellen, I am sorry to hear about your husband and glad to hear you guys will be OK, struggle, but be OK. I sent checks off to two family members to help with rent over the weekend. I hope things get better soon.

I am from Iowa (but live in Maryland now), so I am really enjoying the Iowa Hawkeyes. They are doing very well in College Football. Pulling off miracles in the last few minutes (even seconds) of every game. It is a guaranteed heart attack to watch one of their games... "It ain't over 'till it's over" really holds true for them...

Sorry about your husband's job but glad that you are okay even though things are a little tighter.
