Well, I have my first pair of bifocals (progressive). The pricetag shocked me. I used my own frames to save $200ish for a new pair of frames, and still paid $400ish for the lenses. Is this way out of bounds in price, or is it what I can expect with future glasses? (I do not have vision insurance).

Can't really remember how much I paid for the last pair I got. Think the frames were about $200 or so then $2-300 for the lenses. I don't have any insurance for the frames either. Hubby's mom got new progressive lenses this week, and they were $200, so your price does sound a little high. What store did you go to?

I've worn bifocals for several years and spend about $200-250 for the lenses. Frames can cost anywhere from $99 to $200 depending on the style and make.
I get an employee discount, which does help. Maybe the price depends on where you go or what part of the country you're in. I'm not sure how they figure it.

I bought both glasses and sunglasses (both bifocals) and it was 700.00 and something including the frames.

Sounds like it was high to pay $400 for lenses from what you guys say. I went to a local/regional shop, not a chain. After the fact, I found out a shop in the area gives 50% discount on glasses to folks with my insurance carrier (even without vision insurance). Just show the card and they discount. A guy from work paid about half what I did. I didn't even think to check because I handed my ins card a the optical place I got these at and they couldn't take anything off because I don't have vision coverage.

They do take a bit to get used to...

Yes, they do take some getting used too. I remember that.

I have worn progressives for several years now and they are a little bit more expensive than regular bifocals or the no-line bifocals. Sometimes your prescription also will increase the price. I generally spend over $300 for mine but I also get the photo-gray, ultra-light plastic lenses because my prescription tends to make for "weighty" glasses and my frames tend to be a little bit more because I have such a small face.(The best fit for me is actually chidren's frames but I like the frameless glasses. I generally get mine at Wal-Mart

I had one heck of a time adjusting. A horrible first week, headaches, tearing up when I read, etc... I went back in and come to find out, they messed up my prescription. They ordered a new pair of lenses, at no cost, and I went a second week (two weeks) with problems (I saw better with the bad lenses than without). Anyway, this past weekend they put the correct lenses in and I can see! I am not 100% adjusted to them, but I'd say I am 80-90% adjusted...
