Loki had orthopedic surgery this past Tuesday to fix the knee cap in his left leg that was staying out of place. He came home Thursday and is doing well considering the vet had to re-place part of the tibia and he has pins in the bone so it can heal correctly. He is not particularly happy with the cage rest but for now he is not pushing the issue to get out. The vet said he was a tough cat since he started standing on the leg a little bit the next day after surgery. We took him to the UT Small Animal Hospital Clinic since that is the "to-go-to" place in TN for small pets. The vets were great and his 4th year resident spoiled him by sitting with him beside his cage because she felt so sorry for him. So you can guess what I have to do now just to give him some reassurance, etc - sit with him for about 15 min or so every time he starts calling! No one there had seen a Bengal so all of the vet students and physicians were coming by to take a look at him. I think he enjoyed the attention. Boris is not sure what to think at this point and is staying completely away from Loki. Loki smells different right now and I do believe that Boris is afraid of him.

Wow, GLOWS to Loki. Hope he heals soon, it is not fun to have sick kitties and see them in pain. Did they say how long till he is back to normal? It really helps to have a good vet, as we knew when our Bradley was sick a few weeks ago.

Yes, it will take approximately 6 weeks for the bone to heal so he needs to stay in cage rest until then - no jumping and playing with Boris. We do x-rays again around the 20th to make sure that the bone has stayed in place and healing properly since they had to put pins in the bone to hold it in place. He was only a good patient for 7 days and then he ripped out his stitches - not once but twice - the second time after we made an emergency vet run last Wednesday night to put stitches back in. We put him on an e-collar but he managed to get that off last Thursday and ripped the second set out. He is doing better and hopefully the e-collar can come off for good Saturday. He is starting to play with his toys in his cage and eat more so I know he is feeling better.

Glad to hear he is doing better, and his spirits are good. It will be soon he will be tearing around the house, up & down the Christmas tree, and this will all be a distant memory.
