raw chicken, bone mean and cod liver oil

juliannesmom Jul 06, 2009 12:55 PM

OK. I finally got her eating raw chicken rather than cooked. I'm adding a teensy amount of bone meal which she doesn't like but will eventually eat it. When I tried to add both the recommended amount of bone meal and cod liver oil it turned her raw chicken into a dark green glob and she wouldn't touch it.
* Is there a good way to prep raw chicken? Right now I am cutting it into bitesized pieces with scissors.
* What are the nutritional benefits of bone meal and cod liver oil?
* Any tips on how I can get her to accept the whole thing?
* Can you think of anything else I can do for her?

I don't know why it would turn dark green, as none of the components are that color. If she prefers the chicken cooked, give her that. If you bake the chicken well, it is easy to remove the long bones such as the leg, thigh, Fibula and first wing bone. The rest of the bones are okay for a dog, and they need the bone material. If you leave those other bones in, you can cut back on the bonemeal.

You might just cut the leg quarters at the joint and put down a piece for the cat. She certainly can cut up the meat herself. Cats can eat the bone for the calcium when they need it. As long as you don't have a dogg that can get the larger bones, there is no worry about the cat choking, as they are very careful eaters.
