Chronic Sinus

ponytailfarm Apr 02, 2010 09:33 PM

I have a Cornish rex female about 6 years old who has had a chronic sinus problem since birth. All other kittens in the litter died. Baytril for extended periods helps, but every few months it will come back. Signs of the impending doom are sneezing out snot rockets, excessive wax in the ear on the afflicted side, scratching the ear and neck until bloody on that side, obsessive licking of all surfaces in the house, and finally fever sometimes in excess of 106F, if you can believe that. I can't imagine that I can keep giving her Baytril for the rest of her life. The eye on that affected side waters constantly, so I'm guessing the tear duct is blocked as well. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Upper respiratory infections in cats often tend to be lifelong afflictions caused by a herpes virus. Giving lysine at each meal will often bring about a lessening of symptoms. There are a couple of homeopathic remedies that may be useful as well. If the discharge is stringy or ropy, hanging down, Kali bichromicum 30c given twice a day will often help. Silica 30c given daily is often useful in chronic sinus infections.

Thank you so much. I'm a little confused by "30c." I'm assuming it isn't 30cc. Also, how much of each of these (lysine, etc.) would I give each day?

30c is the potency of the homeopathic remedy. One pellet at a time is sufficient. If the cat spits out the pellet, crush it between 2 matching spoons and drop the powder into the cats mouth. Do not put homeopathic remedies into their food.
500 mg lysine twice a day should be sufficient.
