5 week old kitten vomiting

abukuchick Jun 21, 2011 01:52 AM

Hello! I am taking care of a pair of 5 week old brothers that have been with me for 5 days. Today one of the kittens has been vomiting. He did it 4 times this afternoon in about an hour and then again at around 1:45 am after I put them back in their "safe room". It looks just like runny wet food (which they've been eating, Nutro Max kitten) but has an AWFUL smell to it. I took both kitties to the vet and they said that he isn't dehydrated and gave him a shot of anti-nausea meds. Tonight he was screaming because he was so hungry and since he was acting normal (the same as his bro who is not vomiting) I gave him some dinner, then he got into my adult cat's 96% Merrick BG chicken canned food but I found himn so he didn't eat much. Do you think he's just over-eating and his tummy can't handle it? He is drinking water and using the box but they both had diarrhea from being weaned to kitten food. I was also given something for the diarrhea that he can take once he feels better.

The kitten is having a difficult time transitioning to solid food. Try giving him raw fatty hamburger with some plain yogurt, and stop everything else. When the vomiting and diarrhea stop, you can slowly introduce other foods. Try not to give him too much at one time; it is better to feed small amounts more often.
