Finally-something new

Since Boris was introduced 9 years ago, I thought I would take a few moments and also introduce the newest member of the family - "Little Bit". She was a "throw-away" kitty that managed to find her way to us about e months ago. From the picture you can tell she really knows how to show off and make your heart melt! My daughter and granddaughter officially named her "Trouble" knowing that I would not turn her away. My husband just groaned a little and then alot as we starting paying out vet bills again. She only weighed a little over 5 lbs when she found us. So we did the entire rounds of tests and shots, then a spay, and then tackled a chronic upper respitory infection that took multiple rounds of antibiotics and a two-day hospital stay with IVs and antibiotics. Due to the chronic nature of her sneezing and "snotty" nose, she is an outdoor kitty right now. Since we have to worry about predators such as coyotes, foxes, and even large hawks, she has her own kennel that she stays in at night. During the day she is outside having a ball. I think she knows she has it made though - she never leaves sight of the house and when either my husband or myself are outside, she is right with us. Now she weighs in at 8 lbs and the vet is very pleased with her progress. We keep her on daily doses of lysine to assit with her immunity system and at the moment her nose is clear and we have not heard one single sneeze in three weeks - the longest so far.

Oh, Little Bit is just adorable. I can see why you kept her. She's enough to melt any heart. So glad that she found you and is getting the loving care that she deserves.

I, too, worry about predators getting my cats and only let them out in the daytime. I have a privacy fence so they can't get out but that doesn't stop owls, or large birds. Also, I think that racoons could climb over a privacy fence if they wanted to and they are really cat killers here in Iowa. Hopefully the enclosure that you have Little Bit in is enclosed on all sides.

Thanks for sharing the photo of Little Bit. She looks like she has some Russian Blue in her? Also, isn't Boris part Russian Blue as well? Or maybe I'm not remembering right.

Yes, you remembered correctly - Boris is a Russian Blue wannabe. She has some of his traits but her coat is different than his but she does have those beautiful green eyes. She is in a kennel cage at night that only allows access through one door that has two different locks on it. It is also under our walkway sitting on and old picnic table that I used for gardening. Coyotes and hawks are our number one killers where I live since we have so much farm land for cattle, goats, sheep, etc. In fact most farmers also have donkeys in their fields to keep the coyotes away.

I forgot to add that she was so small that she even surprised the vet when we were trying to guess her age - my vet estimated about 1 1/2 years old when she found us, according to her teeth. None of us were expecting her to be that old.

She sure is lucky you found her! A precious addition to your family.

I am glad you are back and doing well. The house is empty with no kitties, but I am not ready yet.
