Cat Adoption Pending

cyclopsgrl Dec 04, 2011 02:44 PM

It has been a little over a year since I lost Pookey last November at age 19. I am finally ready and have met a little female 4 y/o named Sparkle at the Humane Society/SPCA. She has been returned more than once because she doesn't like other animals in the house. Not a problem for me. I have sent the paperwork in and have to be accepted. Hopefully I can get her next weekend. I may need help with a new name, not crazy about "Sparkle". Here is a photo of her from the SPCA adoption website.

She is lovely! I hope that the paperwork goes through and you're able to adopt her. Keep us posted on what happens.

Some cats prefer being an only pet. They get more attention that way.)

The adoption was approved -- I pick her up Saturday morning! Yay!

Sparkle is here! (I am keeping the name Sparkle). I found out she was turned in to the SPCA last March as a Stray. She was clearly someone's pet, so they think she was lost or abandoned. Someone adopted her a month or so later, but returned her because she "didn't get along with other pets". Come to find out, the lady had six other cats -- Sparkle hid out all the time. She is adjusting very fast. I spent about an hour with her at home and then went shopping a couple hours to give her run of the house. She is sticking close to me, but purring constantly, eating, and using the litter box. She is very sweet, gentle, and purrs all the time. I suppose, being out of the cage after spending most of 9 months in one feels pretty good...

All is going well! She is very gentle. She is not declawed, but is using the scratching toys/posts well and not the furniture -- so far, so good on that. I am treating an eye infection and she sees the vet on Saturday for an initial check-up. It is nice to fall asleep to the purr of a kitty once again!

I'm so happy for both you and Sparkle, Tammy! I know that she will have a happy, loving home with you and at the same time, will be a loving companion for you. It probably didn't work out at the other house, with 6 cats, because she was meant for you. Congratulations to both of you!

Here are some photos of Sparkle (my new kitty I adopted three weeks ago). The vet estimates she is about 5 1/2 years old.

This is a before and after photo: She is kneading my tummy in the first photo and curled up right after kneading in the second photo.

Sparkle is very pretty. She seems content in her new home, and should be feeling even better after some care at the vet. I'm glad that you found each other.

Tammy, Sparkle is beautiful! I'm happy for both of you because now Sparkle has a new home and a wonderful mom to love her. At the same time, you have a new companion who will give you a lot of love. I'm sure that it was meant to be.

I love how she is all curled up in the second photo. She looks content and comfortable. I'm sure that this was a match made in heaven.

Thanks for sharing the photos of Sparkle!

Ruby -- I hope your kitties are doing well. Sparkle goes back to the vet tomorrow -- I'll know more about how many teeth we can save/dental work (and if her infection is under control).

Congrats on adopting from a shelter vs. buying from a breeder.
Your next step should be to check out this web site:

"truthaboutpetfoods.com what mfgrs won't tell you about their products and the ones that do. This way you can make a decision about the longevity of your adopted one. mike

Mike, thank you. Sparkle is not my first cat, my last cat passed away a little over a year ago at almost 20 years of age. She should do very well, I have an excellent vet and am careful about what I feed her.

Thanks.
