How much protein is considered adequate?

quill Dec 13, 2011 02:17 PM

Hi, Could you please tell me what is the daily amount of protein(grams) that is needed for an adult cat in good health? What is it for an elderly cat in good health? For an elderly cat if there is possible kidney disease or the person doesn't want to stress the kidneys? What do you think of egg yolks as an easily digestible source of protein(to supplement other forms, ie chicken)? There seems to be differing opinions on this and I would appreciate your input. Thank you, in advance, for any info.

Cats need animal protein. Eggs are okay, but many cats don't care for them. It is always best to let the cat determine how much it wants to eat, as cats seldom overeat. Protein does not harm the cat's kidney; in fact, it is needed for efficient kidney function.
