Uti w/antibiotics

kittyluvr Aug 29, 2014 02:04 PM

Hi....been a while.

My 12yr old female seems to have come across with her first UTI. My first as well.

Antibiotics started last night 6pm, and it is now 21 hours later and she keeps trying to urinate, but she is unable. This is new to me and I am scared. How long til she can urinate? I know all cats are different, so I will take any info to at least get an idea. Vet says 24-48 hrs. What about those of you with experience with your own cat? She shows no signs of distress, is acting normal...eating, drinking, etc...but she keeps trying to urinate, and it hurts her human (ME!) that she is having a rough time.

If she cannot urinate, where is all her intake going?!

TIA
Rose

It takes a while before cats start feeling better. Her bladder is probably very full. Don’t be surprised if she suddenly empties it in the middle of your living room. As long as she’s drinking water and eating, she’ll be fine. Did your vet do a test? It would tell your vet and you just how mild or bad her UTI is. If it’s bad, she will take longer to get over it. One of my girls has an extremely horrible UTI. Liquid antibiotics didn’t kick it, so vet gave her a 2 week antibiotic shot. She has a spot in the dining room where she likes to let her bladder empty, so I just put down puppy pee pads! If you notice any negative changes, call your vet. I hope she feels better soon!
