gulf hammock ratsnake babys

garyem Sep 22, 2015 04:51 PM

hello
I'm new here so I hope I can get some help.

there are 12 newly hatched babys from a yellow and a gulf hammock female. these are captive bred and born. I incubated and hatched all 12.

I am looking to the best for them and may be releasing them in their natural habitat. from all I can see this is northwest fla.

any advice on a good area to a Nashville guy???

If these are captive bred and raised snakes, do not release in the wild. Even tho they are the same species, there is a chance 1 that there is hybridization in the lines that you are unaware of. This could change the outlook of the species where you are at. Also captive animals carry different pathogens than wild. IT takes great care to reintroduce a species into the wild from captivity to ensure what is captive is not taking something into the wild that will kill the established populations.

I want to do right for the established and by 4 week old babies. The parents are healthy and the young have not been exposed to any outside influences other than some dried leaves.

As for hybridization this also takes place in wild populations.

I have only been able to persuade 4 to eat pinky mice which is the only food I have access to in Tenn.

I really do not know what to do with these guys. The mating was not wanted or expected.

I have decided to go with plan A and try to find good homes for these guys.

I am offering them free to experienced partys.
