Need some help

aaronein Jan 02, 2016 09:28 PM

My wife and I just purchased 2 ball pythons. The male is 4-5 years old and the female is about 5 months old. We've had the pair for about a day now. When we've tried to pick the female up she hisses at us and he just goes under his log. I had a ball python once before but it was several years ago and I only had him for a couple months before circumstances required that I find him a new home. Just looking for some advice to help us along. Thanks.

When I first got my oldest BP 23 years ago he hissed at me too. Once he was used to getting picked up and handled he stopped. With a little gentle consistent handling they should be more accepting that you are not going to eat them. As long as you are careful to not startle them they should become accustomed to handling fairly quickly.
