Can someone help me ID this snake?

Can someone help me ID this snake? It is about 2-3 feet long, and it had a yellow tip tail. I was super scared and smashed the head multiple times, so, I cannot really tell the shape of the head or eyes. This is in the Houston, TX area.

Hard to tell from the pic. Looks like the belly pattern of a cottonmouth.
