Came across a couple of gopher snakes while hiking recently in California. The first was in Orange County, coastal area San Diego Gopher. Little guy who looked like he just ate a mouse.
The second was in Riverside County, very colorful 4-footer who had his head in a hole looking for gophers. This guy had so much gold color in him it reminded me of the Cape Gopher variety.
